Health & Fitness Declaration

Last updated: 8 June 2026 · This forms part of the Coaching Terms & Conditions.

Why we ask

Running and endurance training are demanding activities that carry inherent risks, including muscular and joint injury and, in rare cases, serious cardiac events. Before you start training with us, please read this declaration carefully and confirm it applies to you. If anything changes, tell your coach.

Readiness questions (PAR-Q)

Please consider each of the following. If you answer “yes” to any of them, we ask that you speak to your GP or a doctor and obtain clearance before training:

  • Has a doctor ever said you have a heart condition, or that you should only do physical activity recommended by a doctor?
  • Do you feel pain in your chest when you do physical activity, or have you had chest pain at rest in the past month?
  • Do you lose balance because of dizziness, or do you ever lose consciousness?
  • Do you have a bone, joint or soft-tissue problem that could be made worse by running?
  • Are you currently pregnant, or have you given birth in the last 6 months?
  • Is your doctor currently prescribing medication for blood pressure or a heart condition?
  • Do you know of any other reason why you should not undertake physical activity?

Your declaration

By accepting this declaration you confirm that:

  • To the best of your knowledge you are in good health and able to take part in running and endurance training;
  • You have considered the readiness questions above and, where any applied, you have obtained appropriate medical clearance;
  • You will train within your own limits, warm up appropriately, and stop and seek medical attention if you experience pain, dizziness, chest discomfort, breathlessness beyond normal exertion, or any other warning sign;
  • You will keep your coach informed of any injury, illness, medication or health change that may affect your training;
  • You understand training plans are general fitness guidance, not medical advice, and do not replace advice from a qualified medical professional.

Assumption of risk

You understand and voluntarily accept the inherent risks of running and endurance training, including the risk of injury. You agree that you take part of your own free will and take responsibility for training safely and within your limits, as set out in the Coaching Terms & Conditions.

In an emergency

If you experience chest pain, severe breathlessness, collapse or other medical emergency, stop immediately and call 999. This service cannot provide emergency or medical care.
